Sporta Japan Corporation today announced the appointment of Shiori Yasuma as an official ambassador for its women’s basketball international development initiative, PROJECT GLP ~Japan Got Next~.

Yasume brings firsthand experience competing overseas and has encountered not only the athletic demands of international competition but also the challenges of adapting to new living environments and cultural differences. Her personal journey strongly aligns with the project’s mission to support young athletes pursuing global opportunities, leading to her participation as an ambassador.

Shiori Yasuma Comment

“I am honored to be appointed as an ambassador for PROJECT GLP.

I am deeply inspired by the vision of creating opportunities for young athletes who are fully committed to basketball to challenge themselves in the United States.

When I pursued opportunities overseas, I experienced many uncertainties—not only in basketball, but also in adapting to new environments, language, and relationships. Because of this, I hope to support and encourage players who choose to take on similar challenges and to walk alongside them as they pursue their dreams.

As an ambassador, I look forward to sharing the message of the project and the stories of the athletes while actively participating in the selection process. I sincerely hope this initiative will open doors to new possibilities for many players.”

CEO Yusuke Katoku Comment

“When I met Shiori Yasume in the United States three years ago, I was deeply impressed by her dedication to improvement and her humble character.

Yasuma is a remarkable athlete who pioneered opportunities for Japanese women in European professional leagues and has continued to pursue international challenges across various stages of her career.

On the court, she demonstrates a modern and dynamic playing style, and off the court, she consistently seeks personal and professional growth.

We are truly honored to welcome her as an ambassador. We look forward to applying the valuable insights she has gained from her international experience to this project, helping applicants understand both the challenges and rewards of competing overseas. We also anticipate her guidance during the selection process, particularly in identifying the qualities that enable athletes to succeed internationally.”

Sporta Japan Corporation will continue to collaborate with Yasuma through PROJECT GLP to strengthen its role as a bridge between Japan and the global basketball community and to further contribute to the international development of Japanese women’s basketball.
